Introduction

This post covers several important algorithms used in systems programming. The key insight is that modern CPUs can process multiple values simultaneously using SIMD instructions.

This allows for significant performance improvements in data-intensive workloads when the loop body can be parallelized by the compiler.

Solution

We can use auto-vectorization to achieve this. The compiler will automatically generate SIMD instructions when it detects that the loop body can be parallelized without data dependencies.

The algorithm processes four values at a time, reducing the total number of iterations. This results in a significant speedup compared to the naive single-value approach used in the baseline implementation.
